Why do I see more Christians bashing Islam on here than Muslims bashing Christianity?
Whenever I ask or see a question pertaining to Islam, I see a plethora of people saying how Muslims are bad and Islam is about war and killing? And they cite the Bible with quotes of kindness and caring but cite quotes from the Qur'an about killing, even though, in text, those are about self defense? I've been using Yahoo Answers for years now, and I still haven't seen anyone pop in on "Who were Jesus' Apostles?" saying, "Jesus was a murderer! Muhammad preached peace." I'm sure tehre may be some out there, but I never see them. And I see the Christians do it ALL the time. I mean almost every quetion on Islam has one or two of them.
Thats a good question. One reason, and probably the most important, is that Y!A is overwhelmingly dominated by Christians and/or people raised in a Judeo-Christian cultural context. Whether they are Christian or not, they know more about Christianity than they do about Islam (which is to say, usually nothing). Another reason is that because Christianity is 6 centuries older than Islam, there would not be any mention whatsoever of Islam in the Christian Scripture (Bible). For Christians, Christianity is the new covenant but also the "final" one; there is nothing after it---Jesus is the final revelation. This is why Muhammad is not one of our prophets and by definition could never be. This is quite unlike Islam and the Quran which not only mentions Jesus but reveres him as a prophet. I realize it seems so imbalanced but like I said, this has a lot to do with the cultural background of Y!A. On Arabic and Persian-language websites or those used mainly by Muslims, you will see people bashing Christianity and Christians, although of course never Jesus. For the record, I think it is a real shame that Christians and Westerners in general slander Islam like this but just remember 90% of it is due to sheer ignorance of Islam, Muslims, and history in general.
